IMG_3087Katherine Hegarty is an experienced, Los Angeles based Costume Designer and graduate of Scripps College in Claremont, CA. Originally from Seattle, she grew up with a love for the communicative ability of costume and it’s profound expressiveness of personality, and continues to feel as strongly about the field as she did dressing up as a child. Through her experience at Scripps, she was able to study Costume through a theoretical and conceptual lens, and spent time analyzing the relationship between identity and clothing. The examination of costume through a fine art focus led her to the belief that the body is the ultimate canvas – she has always been fascinated by how clothing effects immediate perception of character, and costume design is the intellectual exploration of that idea. As an art form, costume design provides for the ultimate manipulation of perceptual identity – how we observe and classify individual identity – and how the body is costumed is the most altering to the viewer’s perception of that body.  The process of creating character identity, along with great design, is what she loves most about her work.
